Abstract: This paper explores the possibility of teaching vocabulary in lexical chunks based on cognition.The author argues that the development of modern linguistics gives rise to the new realization that the mastery of lexical skills is closely related to people's cognitive ability.And then with the concept of meaning and the theory of prototypes and basic-level structures in cognitive linguistics as theoretical basis,the paper concludes that lexical chunks as a method of instructing vocabulary accord with the cognitive regularity in the learning process.Finally,this paper proposes a hypothesis about the design of the lexical chunks and exercises from the perspective of cognition.
