Title: Habitus and Cultural Capital in Educational Field:Research on Educational Situation of Rural-to-urban Migrant Workers' Children in Xiamen City
Abstract: This paper,by using Pierre Bourdieu's Cultural Capital Theory,from the angle of the specific form,objective form,and institutional form of cultural capital as well as the habitus,investigates the rural-to-urban migrant workers' children who are studying in junior high schools in Huli District,Xiamen,Fujian province,to summarize and analyze their current educational condition.The study reveals that the migrant workers' children have comparatively small cultural capital,which shows from the fact that cultural capital owned by migrant workers' children is not correspondence with mainstream cultural capital in the school educational field;it is difficult to generate and accumulate adequate cultural capital;the children have strong desire to study but with unclear motivation;and also there are big discrepancies among children studying in different types of schools and coming from different places,in terms of educational condition.
