Title: Research on settings of reinforcement material in geosynthetic reinforced and pile supported embankment based on centrifuge model tests
Abstract: It is important to use a reasonable setting of geosynthetic for fully playing the role of reinforcement in reinforced structures. To study the effect of wrapped-back setting of geogrid ends in GRPS embankments, four groups of centrifuge model tests were performed. According to the test results, the embankment stability and the loads shared by pile and soil were analyzed. The following results are achieved: ① Wrapped-back setting is equivalent to a geosynthetic anchor in the embankment, through which the potential performance of reinforcement can he fully demonstrated, the tensile force of geogrid below the shoulder of embankment is larger than that in the center of embankment; ②Wrapped-back setting of geogrid can increase the pile-soil stress ratio and enhance the embankment load transferring to the piles; ③ Wrapped-back setting of geogrid can not only reduce the total and differential settlement of embankment surface and the lateral displacement of foundation soil, but also improve the integrity and stability of embankment and foundation; ④The mechanical properties of geosynthetic have some important impacts on the tensile force, loads shared by pile and soil, and embankment deformation, and it is proved that a greater tensioned membrane effect is illustrated using the reinforcement material with smaller elongation and bigger tensile modulus.
