Title: Effect of Propylthiouracil on Hyperlipidaemic Rat Model
Abstract: Objective To study the effect of propylthiouracil on the development of hyperlipemia in rats. Methods Thirty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups(ten rats in each group). The rats in the three groups were given intragastrically high-lipid emulsions,high-lipid emulsions containing propylthiouracil, propylthiouracil, respectively.Blood was sampled from veniplex behind the bulbus oculi before administration, and on day 10,20,30 and 40 after administration. The changes of total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) in the serum were monitored. Results Compared with those before administration, serum TC,TG,HDL-C and LDL-C levels were increased significantly on day 10-40 after administration in the three groups(P 0.05 or P 0.01).Propylthiouracil could increase the serum TC,TG,HDL-C and LDL-C levels obviously, the effect being inferior to that of high-lipid emulsions containing propylthiouracil but being superior to that of high-lipid emulsions. Conclusion Application of propylthiouracil alone can induce hyperlipidaemia in rats.
