Title: Catalytic Synthesis of 6-Acetyl-1-methylcyclohexene with a Novel Method
Abstract: 6-Acetyl-1-methylcyclohexene has been synthesized by the acylation of 1-methylcyclohexene with acetic anhydride at room temperature using HY zeolite as a catalyst instead of conventional catalysts. The effects of the SiO_2/Al_2O_3 molar ratio of HY, the amount and calcinations time of HY zeolite used, and reaction time on the acylation reaction were investigated. The yield of the acylated product obtained was 60% in the case of 1-methylcyclohexene /acetic anhydride/HY zeolite (SiO_2/Al_2O_3 molar ratio =29) = 1 mmol/10 mmol/ 0.200 g, reaction temperature = 25 ℃, and reaction time = 3 h. The HY zeolite can be recovered and reused to show almost the same catalytic activity as that shown by fresh zeolite.
