Title: The Mechanism of Winter Sea Fog over Yellow Sea in February,2010
Abstract: In this paper various observational data is to be used and a three-dimensional mesoscale model WRF is employed to simulate and diagnose this sea fog event occurred over the Yellow Sea.We can get the following conclusions:(1) The fog at first started in the north of Yellow Sea.However,it formed because cold and warm air masses mixed together and made relative humidity increase,to form the mixing fog.But after 12(UTC) 22,warm advection moved northward and cold advection disappeared. At this time,it slowly turned into advection cooling fog.Sea fog appeared in Qingdao comes from the Yellow Sea,and is advection cooling fog.(2) In the Yellow Sea,cold and warm air masses mixed together and made the relative humidity increase,to form the mixing fog.The height of mixed fog was significantly lower compared with the advection cooling fog.(3) Sea surface temperature anomaly was lower. In February 2010,the Bohai Sea was frozen widely and the lower sst anomaly may be associated with melting ice.(4) The model results show that, the mixing fog is closely related to cold waters. The advection cooling fog is consistent with the location of cold waters. The mixing fog and advection cooling fog are influenced by sst.The mixing fog changed dramatically, because cold air denaturalize during the moving and is not conducive to generate mixing fog.The cold sea plays a key role in the advection cooling fog.The winter fog is different from spring and summer fog.Differences are as follows: The mechanism of this winter fog is different from typical spring and summer fog.The spring and summer fog is almost advection cooling fog, while this winter fog is different. In the beginning,it's the mixed fog,and then turns into advection cooling fog.
