Abstract:In order to investigate the effects of sowing dates and varieties on the growth,development and yield of summer maize,the experiments with three sowing dates and three varieties of Jiyuan 1(early-matu...In order to investigate the effects of sowing dates and varieties on the growth,development and yield of summer maize,the experiments with three sowing dates and three varieties of Jiyuan 1(early-maturing),Zhengdan 958(middle-maturing),Nongda 108(late-maturing),were conducted in Shangzhuang experiment station of China Agricultural University in Beijing from 2008 to 2009.The results showed that the growth period of summer maize was shortened when the sowing date was put off.The growth period could be shortened by 0.2-0.6 days when the sowing date was delayed for one day.Postponing the sowing date of summer maize resulted in increase of the ratio of ear height to plant height,but the stem diameter for both early-maturing and middle-maturing varieties.The change was not significant for late-maturing variety.The parameters of maximum leaf area index,the aboveground dry matter,leaf area duration and grain yield were all low under late sowing of summer maize.The decrease of grain yield of late-maturing variety was greater than the early-maturing.The grain yield of Nongda 108 decreased by 40.7%-41.6%,and Jiyuan 1 by 22.2%-27.7%.It is evident that the varieties and sowing dates are both very important factors to growth of summer maize in North China Plain.Early sowing is benefit to build high-yield group of maize.Zhengdan 958 shows high yield advantage than others under the same management measures.Read More
