Methods Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and immunohistochemical staining were used to detect expression of the heparanase mRNA and protein in normal hepatic tissues, liver cancer cell line, tumor tissues and adjacent tissues of hepatocellular carcinoma. Results The expression of Hpa mRNA and protein in HCC tissues was significantly higher than that in adjacent tissue and normal hepatic tissues(P 0.05 ). It was correlated with capsular invasion, portal vein invasion, intrahepatic metastasis, TNM classification and recurrence of HCC(P 0.05 ). Hpa protein expression was related with Edmondson-Steiner's classification(P 0.05 ). Conclusion Overexpression of the heparanase mRNA and protein related to the invasion, metastasis, recurrence and prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma.Read More
