Title: The notion of head in different linguistic paradigms
Abstract: This paper posits that a clear distinction should be made between the ‘head-word’ (i.e. ‘center’) and ‘head-constituent’, which contains a head-word and some dependent phrases. The head-word can be derived from the head-constituents though a defined operational procedure. The differences between typological approach and generative approach to ‘head’ are also analysed.
