Abstract: A transferred epithet is, as its name implies, a figure of speech where an epithet (an adjective or descriptive phrase) is transferrd from the noun it should rightly modify to another to which it does not really apply or belong . The correct use of transferred epithet can enhance the effect of expression and enliven the speech. And a better understanding of this seemingly illogical modification is undoubtedly of great benefit for common readers of literary works.
