Title: Analysis of depression and anxiety in patients with multiple myeloma
Abstract: Objective To estimate the prevalence of depression and anxiety in patients with multiple myeloma(MM)and to analyze the possible impact factors. Methods 40 patients with MM were measured with Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale(HADS).Results 28(70.00%) patients had depressive symptoms, and 31 cases(77.50%)had anxiety symptoms. There were 19 patients who had significant depression and anxiety symptoms from 21 patients with Ⅲ-level-MM.From logistic-regression analysis model,we found that males had more risk of depression/anxiety symptoms than females(OR 1.04,95%CI 0.87-1.68,1.16,95%CI 0.89-1.70,respectively) and the risk of depression/anxiety symptoms was 2.34/2.53 times greater for patients with severe MM than those for mild(OR 2.41,95%CI 2.01-3.29,2.56,95%CI 2.12-4.01,respectively).Meanwhile,the patients who knew more about their disease had more risk of depression/anxiety symptoms than those who knew less(OR1.24,95%CI 0.97-1.55,1.27,95%CI 1.01-2.33,respectively).Conclusion There is a high prevalence rate of depression/anxiety symptom in patients with MM,the degree of kidney function impairment and the understanding of disease are the important impact factors.
