Title: Bone autograft mastoid obliteration and canalplasty in the micro-otosurgery
Abstract: OBJECTIVE To discuss theeffectiveness and surgery concept of mastoid obliteration and canalplasty with auto-bone in the micro-otosurgery. METHODS The results of 548 cases, whose mastoid cavities were obliterated with auto-bone from 1998 to 2004 in our department, were reported and all the patients were followed up over 2 years. The main kinds of operation included the radical mastoidectomy, the canal wall down mastoidectomy with tympanoplasty and intact-bridge mastoidectomy with tympanoplasty. RESULTS In 548 mastoid obliteration and canalplasty cases, the shape of external canal were satisfied. The healing period was much shorter and recurrence rate was lower. There was no difference among the three different kinds of operation. CONCLUSION In the mastoid surgery,on the base of eradication of disease, mastoid obliteration and canalplasty can be performed with the shape of external canal resumed at the same time. In the cases of mastoidectomy, the cavity of attic, antrum and facial recess should also be filled in order to avoid suction pocket and cholesteatoma formation.
