Title: Manifestation and Diagnostic Value of Multislice Spiral CT with Multi-plane Reformation in Evaluating Facial Nerve Canal Fracture
Abstract: Purpose To investigate the diagnostic efficacy of two oblique multi- plane reformation (MPR) images in the whole facial nerve canal (FNC) fracture. Materials and Methods The normal temporal bone CT images of 100 ears (normal group) were collected. Oblique MPR image A was obtained to display the tympanic segment, pyramidal segment and mastoid segment of FNC in the same plane. Oblique MPR image B was obtained to display the labyrinthine segment, geniculate fossa and tympanic segment in the same plane. 43 ears of FNC fracture confirmed by surgery (control group) were reviewed. The success rate of MPR was calculated in the two groups. Fracture display rate of diagnostic mode Ⅰ (conventional axial+coronal) and diagnostic mode Ⅱ (conventional axial+coronal+oblique image A or B) were compared. Results The success rates of MPR in image A and B of normal group and control group were 96.00% and 97.00%, 97.67% and 95.35%, respectively. The fracture display rates of mode Ⅰ and mode Ⅱ were 48.84% and 81.40%, respectively with statistical difference (P 0.05). Conclusion Two MPR images of the whole course of FNC can be displayed. MPR image A and B combined with conventional axial and coronal images can improve diagnostic accuracy in FNC fracture.
