Title: Study on the incidence of the carotid artery atherosclerotic plaque in patients with cerebral infarction
Abstract: Objective To explore the incidence of the carotid artery atherosclerotic plaque in patients with cerebral infarction(CI).Methods 138 CI patients on their carotid artery were examed with color doppler ultrasonography. The incidence, stability and location of the carotid artery atherosclerotic plaque in CI patients were observed and compared with those of the normal controls. Results 120 cases(87.7%) of the 138 CI patients were turned out 175 atherosclerotic plaques.36 cases of the 140 normal controls were turned out to be with atherosclerotic plaque(25.7%).There was significant difference between the two groups(P0.01).In the CI group, the rate of unstable plaque(80.8%) was higher than that of stable plaque(19.2%)(P0.01).The rate of the atheromatous plaques in common carotid artery(CCA)(81.1%) was higher than that in internal carotid artery(ICA)(18.9%)(P0.01).The rate of the atheromatous plaques in bifurcation of CCA(66.3%) was higher than that in the trunk of CCA(14.9%)(P0.05).Conclusion The incidence of the carotid artery atherosclerosis plaque in patients with CI is higher. Most of plaques are situated in the bifurcation of the CCA,and are unstable plaques, which indicale that there is a significant relationship between the carotid artery atherosclerosis and the CI.
