Title: Radial head replacement for comminuted fracture of radial head in adults
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the early clinical effect of radial head replacement for comminuted fracture of radial head. Methods Eleven patients with comminuted fracture of radial head(classified as Mason Ⅲ and Ⅳ) underwent radial head replacement from 2007 to 2010.The unipolar mental radial head prosthesis(LINK,Germany) was used for replacement.Elbow function was assessed by Broberg-Morrey elbow score. Results All cases were followed up for average 24.5months.The mean operation time was 104min and mean blood loss was 180ml.According to the Broberg-Morrey elbow score,7cases were excellent,2 good,1 fair and 1 worse. The average range of motion(ROM) of the elbow was 82.3° to 161.4°,maximum pronation of forearm was 60.5°,maximum supination 74.3°.No dislocation and infection was found in this group of patients. Conclusion Radial head replacement is an alternative procedure for comminuted radial head fracture with satisfactory early clinical efficacy.
