Title: The Study of Imposing Boundary Conditions in the Element-free Method
Abstract: Based on moving least-squares (MLS) interpolates, an element-free method (EFM) requires only nodes and a description of the external and internal boundaries and interfaces of the model, not that of element connectivity. Therefore, EFM is completely meshless method. However, the boundary conditions are very difficult to impose, since the shape functions are usually not interpolating. This paper provides several answers to this issue, compares several methods in dealing with boundary conditions, and lastly draws a conclusion, which the penalty function method is good methods in dealing with boundary conditions.
