Title: The establishment and observation of an animal model of corneal endothelial injury in cats with operation of phacoemulsification and in traocular lens implantation
Abstract: Objective To establish an animal model of corneal endothelial injury in cats with operation of phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation(IOL),in preparation for the next treatment. Methods The operation of phacoemulsification and IOL implantation was performed in 20 eyes of 10 home cats. The operative eyes were examined by slitlamp at 1 day,3 days,7 days and 2 weeks after opertation. The central corneal thickness and density of central corneal endothelial cells were examined before and after operation. Results The mean central corneal thickness of the 20 eyes was 516.9±18.34 μm before operation, and it was 702.1 ±17.85 μm at 2 weeks after operation. The mean density of central corneal endothelial cells of the 20 eyes was 2104.3±156.22 cells /mm2before operation, and it was 1011.5±153.37 cells /mm2at 2 weeks after operation. There were significant differences in the central corneal thickness and the density of central corneal endothelial cells before and after operation(P0.05).Conclusion The animal model of corneal endothelial injury with operation of phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation is successfully established in cats.
