Title: Exploring Canadian English:Characteristics in Spelling,Vocabulary,Pronunciation and Grammar
Abstract: Canadian English is unique in many ways, having been influenced by the languages of the aboriginal peoples and its immigrants, as well as by American English. Some words have developed senses different from those in its counterparts. Its spelling system and vocabulary feature both British English and American English. Its pronunciation system is peculiar in some aspects, but its grammar does not show much difference. Owing to the special environment and culture it is associated with, the English variety has developed more than 2200 Canadianisms, according to one source. Whether viewed as a variant of English or simply an English, Canadian English is an example that furnishes good evidence for the theory of linguistic contact.
