Methods The PD models were formed with intraperitoneal injections of MPTP.RFP was administered intraperitoneally to mice prior or posterior to MPTP.The effects of MPTP on the behavioral exhibition were explored. The number of dopamine(DA)neurons in the compact part of the substantia nigra(SNc)were studied by Nissl and immunohistochemical analysis. Results After MPTP injection, the mice behaved with tremor, erect tail, piloerection, bradykinesia, instability of gait and hypokinesia. The number of both Nissl and TH positive cells decreased obviously. However the number of Bcl-2 positive cells and caspase-3 positive ones increased obviously in the SNc.RFP given posterior to MPTP relieved the symptom, the number of Nissl,TH,Bcl-2 positive cells increased and the caspase-3 positive cells decreased in the SNc. RFP given prior to MPTP had the most effect. Conclusion RFP is neuroprective against MPTP-induced DA neurons apoptosis in C57BL mice.Read More
