Title: Numerical simulation of single bubble behavior in stirred liquid metal flow
Abstract: Quasi-three dimensional numerical simulations of characteristics of a single bubble in a stirred liquid metal flow field were conducted, with the process of manufacturing aluminum foam by gas injection into a metal melt as background. The method of Multiple Reference Frames and a standard k-e model were employed for the computation of three-dimensional turbulent flows in a cylindrical stirred tank.Bubble movement and deformation were computed in a two-dimensional section through the stirring axis.To simulate the bubble behavior under different initial conditions, the(volume of fluid,VOF) method was used for tracking the interface between the two phases. The results reveal three mechanisms for bubble movement and breakup in the stirred flow field.
