Title: Preparation and Characterization of PAN/Kaolinite Intercalation Compound by Solution Intercalation
Abstract: Kaolinite was modified by using dimethyl formamide(DMF).The polyacrylonitrile/kaolinite(PAN/kaolinite)intercalation composites were prepared by solution intercalation with modified kaolinite and PAN.The prepared composites was characterized by X-ray diffraction and infrared spectrum analysis.The results showed that the interlay spacing of kaolinite has been expanded,which was attributed to the fact that PAN has been intercalated into the layer of the kaolinite.Both the thermal properties and flame retardant property were investigated.The TGA-DTA curve of PAN/kaolinite composites was shifted to higher temperature,which illustrated that the thermal stability of PAN/kaolinite composites was enhanced.The LOI of the PAN/kaolinite composites was enhanced from 18.2% to 22.3%,which revealed that the flame retardant property has been improved.
