Title: On the inheritance of Lu Xun's spirit in Mo Yan's Wine Land
Abstract: During the May 4th Movement, Lu Xun demonstrated ideological criticism and cultural criticism with diverse connotations through the image of man-eating in his Diary of a Madman. In the 1990s, this literary image appeared again in Mo Yan'sWine Land. From the standpoint of common people, the author not only consciously inherited Lu Xun's critical spirit , but also expressed his realization of the difficulties in reconstructing the traditional culture by deconstructing the image of a torchbearer or a reformer. Through a comparison between the literary images by the two authors, the paper attempts to prove that Lu Xun's spirit plays an important role instead of disappearing from contemporary Chines literary circle.
