Title: Significance of nerve conduction velocity in the diagnosis of diabetic peripheral neuropathy
Abstract: Objective:To explore the diagnostic value of nerve conduction velocity (NCV) in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Methods:NCV was detected in 50 patients with type II diabetic mellitus. The patients were divided into clinical symptom positive group and symptom-negative group. Related factors were analyzed. Results:A significant difference was observed between the two groups( P 0.05) in terms of motor nerve conduction velocity(MCV) and sensory nerve conduction velocity(SCV). The comparison indicated a higher rate of abnormal SCV in the clinical symptom-positive group. The changes of NCV were correlated with the course development of the patients, but not with blood sugar level. Conclusions:The examination of NCV might be of great help to the diagnosis of diabetic peripheral neuropathy in early stage.
