Title: Correlation between the Expression of VEGF and Survivin and Postoperative Recurrence of Colorectal Cancer
Abstract: Objective To explore the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)and survivin in human colorectal cancer (colorectal cancer,CRC) and its relation with postoperative recurrence of CRC. Methods The expressions of VEGF and survivin in 80 samples of human CRC was detected by immunohistochemistry staining assay respectively, and the results were related to recurrence. Results The positive expression rates of VEGF and Survivin were 42.5% and 45% respectively. Survivin and VEGF expression had positive correlation (r = 0.323,P0.05). Higher levels of VEGF and Survivin were significantly correlated with Dukes stage. The levels of VEGF and Survivin in primary CRC in Dukes stage C were significantly higher than those in Dukes stage B(P0.05). Higher levels of VEGF and Survivin were significantly correlated with the rate of postoperative recurrence(P0.05). Conclusion It is indicated that expression of VEGF and Survivin might be correlated with CRC recurrence, and the expression of VEGF and Surviving may reflect the malignant degree of CRC and serve as prognostic predictors.
