Title: INTERFACIAL CHARACTERIZATION OF ORGANIC BENTONITE WITH CETYL TRIMETHYL AMMONIUM BROMIDE AND SODIUM DODECYL SULFATE
Abstract: Na-bentonite is modified with cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide(CTAB) and sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS) respectively, which are measured by XRD,IR,TG,Zeta potential and particle size analysis. The results indicate that CTAB is different from SDS in connection models.CTAB substitutes the exchangeable cations in the interlayered area and enters the interlayer;but SDS does not.SDS tends to the swelling of bentonite. The negative charge of SDS bentonite particles is less effective, because of the screening effects between the charges of narrow edges of particles and SDS molecules.
