His poems were featuered in scenery description, art-appreciation and classical poem evaluation and these features brought him great achievement. But as a poet living at the turn from the middle Qing Dynasty into modern times and being positioned at the front of anti-English war, his poems lacked the powerful sound of his time, for which we feel regretful. He lived in a time when poets were imitating styles of the Tang and Song Dynasties, but besides inheritance, Liang's poetry had its own characteristics, which were important factors that made his poems renowned. Liang took Han Yu and Su Dong-po (both were Chinese famous poets) as examples, but his diction and syntax were different from theirs. As a part of the Ling Nan literature, Liang Ting-nan's poems have been ignored all the time. We must place him in the proper position, which he should have got, in the history of Ling Nan literature.Read More
