Title: Study on efficacy of breviscapine to improve peripheral nerve repair
Abstract: Objective To investigate the function of breviscapine to improve peripheral nerve repair, and to provide scientific basis and reference for its uses. Methods Eighteen SD rats were obtained and made a 15mm-long nerve defect on the right sciatic nerve 2cm under lower edge of piriformis, and then were randomly divided into 3 groups: Autografts group(the nerve was cut and change direction to bridge);Experimental group(the nerve was removed and was bridged by acellular rat sciatic nerve, and then injected with breviscapine by 1mg / Kg / d);Nerve scaffold group(the nerve was removed and was bridged by acellular rat sciatic nerve).12 weeks after the operation, repair effect was evaluated by sciatic verve function index(SFI),histology detection and gastrocnemius wet weight recovery rate. Results The quantity and diameter of opaque nerve fibers, the density and neural sheath thickness in experimental group were all better than those in nerve scaffold group, and similar to those in autografts group.Meanwhile, the expression of S-100 protein in the repaired nerve and the amount of tactile corpuscle in average area in the experimental group were obviously higher than those in nerve scaffold group. Conclusion Breviscapine injection is able to improve the efficacy to repair peripheral nerve damage, and can be used in adjuvant therapy in peripheral nerve damage.
