Title: RELATIONSHIP OF THE SUBTROPICAL HIGH AND SUMMERTIME FLOODS/DROUGHTS OVER NORTH CHINA
Abstract: Simultaneous relationship between Western Pacific subtropical high and the rainfall over North China, wet/dry circulation anomaly patterns and precipitable water are discussed in terms of monthly rainfall, geopotential height, precipitable water and related indices of the high. Results show that variation of the high is closely related to the anomaly rainfall over North China, especially the location variation of the ridge line and west-extending point of the subtropical high;a remarkable “- + -”circulation pattern over Eurasia from high latitude to the subtropics occurs with negative anomaly precipitable water present over North China, leading to drought when the subtropical high is shifting southeastward, and vise versa.
