Title: Pursuit for Political Modernity under the Pressure of Racial Politics:The Political Identity of Manchu Students in Japan from "Da Tong Bao"
Abstract: A group of Manchu students who had accepted western education in Japan pursued to save China beyond the Qing government and revolutionists.They advocated adopting the political nationalism instead of racism.They claimed the equality between the Man and Han nationalities,and hoped to form the Man Han MengHuiZanginto a whole Chinese nationality.They ascribed the domestic and foreign crisis to the problem of political institution,and called on a constitution movement to establish a responsible government.An elected parliament was the first step of this movement.They also believed in the theory of social evolution,and chased to bring the most people the greatest happiness.During the XinHai revolution,with the issues ofDa Tong Bao,their critical attitude towards the despotism and their seeking for a political modernity meant a real political revolution.
