Title: Study of Middle—Upper Jurassic Turbidites on the Altun Slope in the Western Qaidam Basin
Abstract: The turbidites of the Middle—Upper Jurassic on the Altun slope in the western Qaidam basin were discovered from the mudstones during the field work. The turbidites appeared the typical gravity flow sedimentary characteristics, including the bedding structure such as bottom scouring, flute cast, etc. and intra-layer structure such as graded bedding, horizontal bedding, running water wave bedding and syngenetic imbricated structure, etc. There are 6 assemblages of Bouma sequence. Lithofacies such as massive sandstones(B1) and proximal turbidite (C) have been recognized in the study area. Based on the analysis of paleocurrents and source areas, it is found that the turbidite system belongs to submarine ramp turbidite system; studying on the paleocurrents and the characters of the turbidite, it is indicated that the flow direction of the Middle—Upper Jurassic turbidites on the Altun slope is from northeast to southwest, the Altun slope was subsided continuously during the Middle—Late Jurassic and the center of the Qaidam basin was swell and source areas in Mesozoic.
