Title: Establishing a Framework with Functional Stylistics for Translation of Style in Literary Works
Abstract: This is an attempt to use functional stylistics to establish a framework to study stylistic translation in literary works. Efforts have been made in both theoretical and practical perspectives to prove the necessity and validity of this application. Theoretically, functional stylistics holds a comprehensive view on style (viewing style as foregrounding, regarding style residing in all the functions(ideational, interpersonal, textual), viewing a text systematically, treating text as the unit of stylistic analysis, etc. ) This can help a literary translator to achieve an adequate and effective stylistic analysis first, and to achieve a more satisfactory translation with functional equivalence last. It is therefore proved that functional stylistics is a relatively more comprehensive and valid theoretical basis for the study of stylistic translation. It can provide literary translators with operationally workable framework and dialectical methods for practical stylistic analysis and transference. The practical analyses are the exemplification of the theoretical analysis.
