Title: Herbal Compatibility of Fuzheng Huayu Recipe against Pulmonary Fibrosis
Abstract: Objective To investigate the characteristics of herbal compatibility in Fuzheng Huayu Recipe(Recipe to reinforce the anti-pathogenic qi and dissolve stasis) against pulmonary fibrosis in rats.Methods The pulmonary fibrosis models were made by intratracheal injection of bleomycin(BLM) in male SD rats,and successful models were randomly divided into 16 groups according to orthogonal design.A normal control group was established as well.Changes in body weight and lung coefficient,inflammation and collagen deposition of lung tissues were observed,the hydroxyproline(Hyp) content was assayed,the SOD activity and MDA content were measured.Results Compared with the normal control group,the model groups had pulmonary alveolar wall destroyed with inflammatory cells infiltration and collagen deposition,and lung coefficient,lung Hyp and MDA contents increased,but SOD activity decreased.For decreasing Hyp content,the main effective herb is Gynostemma Pentaphyllammak(Jiaogulan),secondly is Radix Salvia Miltiorrhiza(Danshen) and Semen Persicae(Taoren),and Cordyceps(Dongchongxiacao) and Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis(Wuweizi) had the combinational effect to some extent.For improving SOD activity,the main effective herbs are Cordyceps Extract and Radix Salvia Miltiorrhiza.While Cordyceps and Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis had the obvious combinational effect.For decreasing MDA content,Gynostemma Pentaphyllammak had remarkably action,Radix Salvia Miltiorrhiza and Semen Persicae,Cordyceps and Radix Salvia Miltiorrhiza,Radix Salvia Miltiorrhiza and Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis had the combinational effects.Conclusion The main effective herbs of Fuzheng Huayu Recipe against pulmonary fibrosis in rats are Gynostemma Pentaphyllammak,Radix Salvia Miltiorrhiza,and Cordyceps.Among them,Gynostemma Pentaphyllammak plays the pivot role in inhibiting lung collagen production,Cordyceps and Radix Salvia Miltiorrhiza prominently protect rats from peroxidative injury.
