Title: Empirical study of Discourse Transfer in Chinese College Students' English Writing
Abstract: This paper,based on the use of transfer theory as well as discourse analysis theory in conducting empirical researches,explored the possibility of reducing the interruption of the mother tongue in writing English compositions by the Chinese students who were given writing courses relevant to the discourse.The conclusion showed that,after special training by comparing and analyzing the Chinese discourse with English discourse,significant differences appeared between those who received the training and those who did not in their English compositions judged by the criterion of discourse transfer,though there were not so much differences in the quality of their compositions between the subjects and non-subjects.But it can not be asserted that discourse-based special training for Chinese students' English writing ability should be invalid,because the writing ability of the two languages is a comprehensive one and is affected by crisscross influence of many factors.
