Abstract:Objective:This study was to evaluate the accuracy of two kinds of electronic apex locators in determination of working length.Method: 60 mandibular first premolars with single root canal were used.The...Objective:This study was to evaluate the accuracy of two kinds of electronic apex locators in determination of working length.Method: 60 mandibular first premolars with single root canal were used.The working length of the canal was measured by Root ZX and Propex apex locator respectively.Then the premolars were extracted and were cut longitudinally at the apical one-third of the canals by dia-bur in order to expose the apical constriction.The working length of the teeth was measured by sliding caliper under a dental operating microscope.The data were compared and the accuracy was defined as ±1.0mm.Result: Accuracy of working length measured by Root ZX was 90%,by Propex was 93.3%,no significantly statistical differences were found between the two apex locators(P0.05).None of the 60 cases measured by Root ZX and Propex surpassed the apical foramen.Conclusion: Both the Root ZX and the Propex are good apex locators,and they can measure working length accurately.Read More
