Title: The constructional balance of Chinese characters and its usage in teaching Chinese as a foreign language
Abstract: As a very important part in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL), and also a very difficult part for foreign students, Chinese characters has been both loved and feared by international students. They consider Chinese characters as too enormous quantity and too complicated construction to master them. In a research done by some American institute, 50% of the students who has already started Chinese at colleges stopped in their second semester or second year of Chinese courses, just because the characters are difficult to know, to write, and to remember. This essay expects to draw attention the Chinese character constructional balance during the course of TCFL and thus propose some new ideas in teaching characters, providing the students a guiding concept that the construction of radicals in Chinese characters is balanced, that there is a way in learning the Chinese character.
