Title: Application of the "Che-zhe" Rhyme, a Typical Chinese Rhiming Recorded in Rhymings in Central China, in Folk Literature in the Song and the Yuan Dynasty
Abstract: This paper, through investigation and analysis of such forms of folk literature in the Song and the Yuan times as major melody, dancing melody, cipoetry to drumbeating, Zhuanta, Pinghua, dramastic songs, palace tunes, Yuan melody, etc., discovers that the Chezhe rhyme, a typical Chinese rhyming recorded in Rhymings in Central China, occurred merely in palace tunes, nondramastic songs and poetic dramas. This discovery shows that the Chezhe rhyme did not appear in Chinese until the late 11th century when it was applied in a very limited range. What Mao Zhao mentioned as the graceful accent in Central China should have referred to the accent of people in Bianjing, capital of the North Song Dynasty.
