Title: Genetic Analysis and Molecular Mapping of the Gene GL3 for Grain Length in Rice (Oryza sativa L.var.japonica)
Abstract: Genetic mechanism for grain length trait in rice(Oryza sativa) was analyzed by using F2 population and F2:3 family derived from the parents of large grain rice '80018-TR161-2-1'and small grain rice 'small black rice of Japan'.The results showed the distribution of both grain length in F2 population and F2:3 family expressed the separation ratio of 3:1.The long grain trait was controlled by a single recessive nuclear gene, named GL3.By using simple sequence repeat consorting with population group mixed analysis, the GL3 gene was mapped between two SSR markers PSM379 and RM16 on chromosome 3,whose genetic distances were 4.0 cM and 11.2 cM,respectively.
