At the 70's and 80's of 20th centuries, scientists put forward and established national universal classification system of 1∶1 000 000 of geomorphology, and published 15 sheets geomorphologic maps. Up to now, the national classification system of land-cover is not established and published. So, based on advanced techniques such as Remote Sensing, Geographical Information System etc., and research achievements of classification systems of land use and vegetation, the study integrated international universal FAO land-cover classification method with classification system of land-use and vegetation, established new national land-cover classification system, which divided national land-cover into seven types (first class): Forest, Grassland, Desert, Water-body and wetland, Sparse and non-vegetation land, Farmland, Artificial Construction, the classification indexes of the first class include vegetation status and land-use ways, and the second and third ones are not same according to different regional characteristics. Based on the code method of the historical thematic maps, the study put forward 6-bit number for coding the land covers maps, and every class possess 2-bit number. The system belongs to national classification method, which can't contain every kind of land covers; moreover some types of covers are usually dynamic and changed. So, based on the classification system, different covers should put forward detail types according to regional characteristic. With the utilization of RS data to differentiate land-cover types, lots of work can be finished in indoors, but the acquisition date and the quality of RS data is usually not uniform because of the different sensors and climate factors, which effect the land covers and classification result. So, perfect classification system, RS data with relatively uniform acquisition date, special knowledge, and field surveying are the same important in order to attain exact types of land cover.Read More
