Title: Study on the Lending Behavior of Foreign Banks in China Based on the Background of Financial Crisis
Abstract: Using Chinese financial institutions' panel data of 2001 ~ 2009, the paper empirically analyzes the differences of lending behaviors between foreign banks and domestic banks during the recent global crisis. The analysis finds that foreign banks curtail their loans more than domestic banks; state-owned banks play a more countercyclical role than other banks; the less important foreign banks are in their group, the more curtailed their loans are; the banks from the United States reduce their loan growth more than other banks; the capitalization, liquidity and funding capacity of parent banks justify the lending behaviors of foreign banks in China during the global crisis.
