Title: Research on the influence of blockage in water tunnel for ventilated supercavitating flow
Abstract: The blockage effect of water tunnel has the important influence on the ventilated supercavitating flow, thus cause the difference of parameters from the experiments in water tunnel and infinite flow field. In this paper, the mechanism of blockage effect in water tunnel is investigated based on the Euler two-fluid multiphase flow model. The validity of the numerical method is firstly verified by the experimental data in water tunnel. Secondly, the influencing law to supercavity shape from the viscous effect of water tunnel wall and scale effect is studied, the mechanism of blockage effect in water tunnel is analysed. The results show that: the cavitation slenderness ratio becomes bigger due to the blockage effect of water tunnel; the influence to the maximal diameter of cavity is not obvious by adding the diameter of the cavitator; the blockage effect of water tunnel is mainly affected by the viscous and scale effect of the wall and becomes more obvious with the higher velocity; the velocity and the model scale should be overall considered for the design of the experiments in water tunnel The above results in water tunnel are of significance to the design of the ventilated supercavitating experiments in water tunnel.
