Title: Services Trade and Technical Efficiency Enhancement of China's Service Industry:An Empirical Study with Industrial Panel Data
Abstract: By adopting DEA-Malmquist productivity index, this paper measures and calculates the growth rate of overall technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency, and scale efficiency of nine sub-divided service industries in China based on panel data from 2005 to 2010.On this basis, this paper further applies FGLD and system GMM to test the effects of export and import on technical efficiency from the perspectives of entire industry and sub-divided industries. The findings suggest that,in terms of the entire service industry, imports have a significant positive effect on technical efficiency and its decomposition, while the effect of export is negative;the effect of both import and export on technical efficiency is realized by scale efficiency;due to the significant difference of industrial characteristics and economic management levels between traditional and newly-emerged services, the above conclusions are not identical between two sub-divided service industries.
