Title: Quantitative estimation of experimental choroidal neovascularization
Abstract: Objective To investigate the feasibility of calculating the areas of krypton laser-induced choroidal neovascularization(CNV) in rats. Methods Right eyes of 24 rats received krypton laser irradiation to break through Bruch membrane for the establishment of experimental CNV,and the left eyes were as controls.CNV leakage at ocular fundus was observed with fundus photography and fundus fluorescein angiography(FFA) at 1 week,2 weeks,3 weeks and 4 weeks, respectively.CNV areas were measured with stretched preparation of choroid. Results The rates of succeed laser-induced CNV model became stable at 3 weeks and 4 weeks(75.00%,78.75%).CNV areas increased significantly with time prolonged after CNV model established by FFA and stretched preparation of choroid(P0.05).The differences were not significant at 3 weeks and 4 weeks. The increase of CNV was also found at pathological sections. Conclusions FFA,stretched preparation of choroid and pathological sections can be used as index for estimating CNV,and stretched preparation of choroid for quantitative analysis of CNV is reliable.
