Title: A Three-Dimensional Cellular Automaton Model for Microstructure Simulation
Abstract: The cellular automaton is an ideal model for a complex system; it is suitable to describe the problem about the complex dynamic system, such as the simulation for evolution of microstructures of materials. It is also easy to be used in the computer. In the paper, we use the OpenGL API to construct a three-dimensional cellular automaton model by C++. This model possesses the basic elements, which the classic cellular automaton has. So this model can be expanded by people with different requirements. Because we use the 3D technology of OpenGL, the simulation results become more realistic; it can be watched from different angles. In the paper, we use the model to simulate the growth of predigest branch model. We compare the 3D results with the 2D results, which validate the validity of this model.
