Title: Advantages of rhytidectomy incision for parotidectomy
Abstract: Objective To explore advantages and disadvantages of rhytidectomy incision for parotidectomy. Methods Forty patients underwent parotidectomy were randomly and equally divided into two groups. Group A was performed parotidectomy through traditional S incision while group B was performed through rhytidectomy incision. The size of tumor, time of operation, volume of blood bleeding, and temporary facial paralysis were measured in all patients. Question of self-satisfaction with facial scar was also inquired. Results There was no difference(P0.05) between the two groups in tumor size and temporary facial paralysis. Patients in group B were all satisfied with the facial scar (20/20) while only 11 patients were satisfied in group A (11/20), which had a statistic difference between the two groups (P0.005). However, group B had longer time for operation and more volume of blood bleeding than the group A.Conclusion Patients with rhytidectomy incision were much more satisfied with the facial scar than patients with traditional incision. Rhytidectomy approach to parotid gland resulted in more concealed scar with affordable longer operation time and more volume of blood bleeding.
