Title: Full Stress Design of Plate Shell Structures and Implementation on MSC/Nastran Software
Abstract: According to the full stress criterion and the relation between stress and internal force of plate shell structures the iterative formula for the full stress design of plate shell structures was deduced. The design variables were linked with dimensionless design variables,so a design variable can control many elements with different thickness and the application range was extended.Based on MSC/Nastran software, the full stress optimization software for plate shell structures was secondly developed, which is applicable to the problem with multiple variables under multiple loading cases. With the opening of MSC/Nastran and PCL(Patran Command Language) environment of MCS/Patran,the software is in harmony with Patran and Nastran completely. The element finite model was established with Patran and the element finite analysis was finished with Nastran.According to the full stress criteria, the design variables were modified. The element finite analysis and the full stress design repeated until the structural weight was converged. The numerical examples show that the algorithm is robust, reliable, and efficient, and the program satisfies the requirement of engineering application.
