Title: The Epigraph for Zhangmo of the Northern Qi Dynasty and Beixin County
Abstract: In 2006,the epigraph for Zhangmo was discovered among the people of Datong City.Zhangmo, according to the epigraph, was assigned as Lingminzheng, the magistrate of Beixin in the year of 555.He died next year in his post and was buried on the north hill of the county. As stated in the epigraph,we found an ancient town belonging to the Northern Wei Dynasty and the Northern Qi Dynasty in Fanwangsi village, the north of Suozhou, and that town was located 150 kilometers southwest from Datong City. The remains of the city walls can be clearly recognized. The west city is the remains of the Northern Wei Dynasty and is referred to by the local people as the imperial city.Wei Shu has the record as follows: County Pingqi was first built at Beixin, which was later moved to southwest of the capital city Pingcheng——today's Datong city…… Beiqi Shu also mentions,County Suo was established in the second year of the Yanhe period, and was captured at last…… Through careful study of the historical documents concerned,we can come to the conclusion that the ancient town found in Fanwangsi Village,Suozhou,is the Northern Wei's county Pingqi and the Northern Qi's county Beixin and county Northsuo. It may also be the site of small Pingcheng, where king Dai Tuoba Qilu once moved to and settled down.
