Title: Reflections On the Concepts of the History of Chinese Contemporary Literature ——Taking Zhao Shuli as an Example
Abstract: The writing of the history of contemporary Chinese literature has changed a great deal in the past decades, and so has the concept of literary history. Before the Cultural Revolution, the political ideology became dominant in the literary history writing. In 1980s the slogan was put forward that it was necessary to rewrite the history of Chinese literature and the previous political utterances were subverted. Meanwhile, great endeavors were made to track the modern steps of contemporary Chinese literature. In 1990's after profound reflections were made on the ideological trends in 1980s and under the influence of post-modernism, the concepts of literary history gradually became pluralistic or uncertain. Taking Zhao Shuli as an example, the writer of this paper presents a brief account of the writing process of the history of contemporary Chinese literature and makes her own comments on the different concepts of literary history. The paper concludes that the transformation from monism to pluralism provides multi-dimensional perspectives of literary history.
