Abstract:Objective:To evaluate the clinical value of MSCT in the diagnosis of constrictive pericarditis.Methods:CT imaging of twenty-eight patients with clinically diagnosed constrictive pericarditis and treat...Objective:To evaluate the clinical value of MSCT in the diagnosis of constrictive pericarditis.Methods:CT imaging of twenty-eight patients with clinically diagnosed constrictive pericarditis and treated with pericardiolysis/pericardiectomy were retrospectively analyzed.The morphologic changes of pericardium and myocardium were studied.Results:All cases showed irregular pericardial thickening with the mean thickness as 6.46mm.Various degree of pericardium thickening and calcification were assessed in 22 cases,no obvious pericardium thickening yet only punctate calcifications were showed at atrio-ventricular sulcus in 4 cases,and increased density of pericardium in 2 cases with neither calcification nor thickening of pericardium.Various degree of ventricular deformation could be seen in 20 cases,with serious deformation in 11 cases.All of the 28 cases had inferior vena cava dilatation,with 18 cases had atrium enlargement.Coronary artery could be revealed clearly on enhanced CT,and abnormal myocardium perfusion was showed in 2 cases.During operation,central venous pressure was obviously declined,and diffuse thickening,adhesion of pericardium,formation of annulus fibrosus were seen in 19 cases,diffuse calcification in 3 cases,focal thickening of pericardium accompanied with adhesion,calcification,annulus fibrosus in 6 cases.Conclusion:Thickening,calcification of pericardium,abnormal hemodynamics and ventricular morphology deformation due to annulus fibrosus constriction could be assessed on MSCT.The relationship of coronary artery and calcified pericardium,abnormal myocardium perfusion could be assessed on enhanced CT.MSCT is considered as a reliable technique in the diagnosis of constrictive pericarditis.Read More
