Title: Study on anatomy of tympanic and mastoid segment of facial nerve temporal bone with oblique sagittal MR scanning
Abstract: Objective To study and measure tympanic and mastoid segment of facial nerve of normal temporal bone with oblique saggital MR scanning. Methods Twenty normal temporal bones(40 ears) were scanned with 3D-FIESTA GE 3.0T MR scanning machine. All the ears underwent oblique sagittal MR scanning and then given some measurments. Results All the 20 temporal bone specimens(40 ears) were displayed well. The length of the tympanic segment was(10.65±1.98)mm.The length of mastoid segment was(14.87±1.20)mm.The diameter of the tympanic segment was(1.24±0.14)mm.The diameter of the mastoid segment was(1.39±0.18)mm.The diameter of the cone segment was(1.25±0.21)mm.The angle between the mastoid segment and the tympanic segment was(105.22±9.13)°.Conclusion Oblique sagittal MR scanning can show tympanic facial nerve well, and provides valuable evidence for the diagnosis and operation on ear disease.
