Title: Expression of Leukemia-associated Immunophenotypes on Acute Myeloid Leukemia Cells and Its Prognostic Significance
Abstract: To determine the frequency of leukemia-associated immunophenotypes(LAIP) in refractory cases and to correlate their presence with refractory AML,the asynchronous antigen expression(CD34/CD11b,CD34/CD14,CD34/CD15) and cross-lineage antigen expression(CD7/CD13,CD19/CD13,CD56/CD13) in 45 refractory AML patients and 54 remission patients were analyzed by using multi-parameter flow cytometry with routine standard panel of monoclonal antibodies. The results showed that the presence of CD34/CD11b asynchronous expression in the refractory group(37.8%) were significantly more frequent than that in the remission group(13.0%,P=0.004).The other phenotypes(CD34/CD14,CD34/CD15) and cross-lineage antigen expression(CD7/CD13,CD19/CD13,CD56/CD13) did not show a significant difference between the refractory and remission groups for AML.It is concluded that CD34+/CD11b+ remained significantly associated with refractory AML cases.CD34+/CD11b+ AML should receive intensive chemotherapy and allergenic bone marrow transplantation for prolonged survival.
